In chapter 10, Jane wonders about procuring employment outside of the Lowood school. She stays up late one night and tries to figure out how she could get a job without having a vast network of friends to set her up with anything. Then, she suddenly gets the idea to apply for a position in the newspaper. The suddenness of the idea makes her think that “A kind fairy, in my absence, had surely dropped the required suggestion on my pillow.”
Bronte’s invocation of the supernatural in this chapter comes from the feeling that Jane’s going to work for Mr. Rochester came by as a result of fate or providence. Jane knows nothing about how to advertise in the paper, but this solution to her problem comes so swiftly to her mind that she assumes there must be a greater power out there helping her. Indeed, her reasoning that she has to write her own ad and pay to have it put into the newspaper despite having no experience doing so does makes the event appear supernatural in origin.

In chapter 10 of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, the supernatural is portrayed when an unexplainable event occurs. Miss Temple gets married and leaves Lowood School, thereby leaving Jane without any close friends. As Jane is looking out of her window, she sees the beautiful mountains around her and has the inclination to find another job somewhere else. She thinks about what she can do to change her job all day, but the final idea comes to her mind at night. But she doesn’t give herself credit for coming up with the idea, which is to advertise her services in the newspaper. Actually, she says that “a kind fairy” must have placed a message on her pillow because when she went back to bed that night, the thought of advertising in the paper “naturally” came to her mind. Basically she is saying that she would not have come up with the solution to her problem without “outside” or supernatural help.
